Every line of code we write carries somebody's trust. That is the only specification that really matters. — Ms. Helen Suguna Mary
A software company is usually judged on what it ships. I have come to believe it is better judged on what it refuses to ship.
We hold what an institution cannot afford to lose — a student's record, a parent's payment, a hospital's duty roster. That is a trust placed in us, not merely a contract closed with us, and we run this company accordingly.
Character in our work is a quiet thing. It is the well-structured line no client will ever read. It is the defect corrected the week after the invoice was settled. It is telling a customer that the smaller solution is the right one. Quality outweighs quantity here, always: a feature rushed out with bugs in it costs everyone far more than the time it saved.
The same standard applies to our own people. Every colleague at Hungry Minds is a contributor to something larger than a task list. Teams that are trusted, and given the room to think, build better software than teams that are merely managed.
Since 2012 we have built for the schools, colleges, hospitals and businesses that are too often served last. We intend to go on doing exactly that — with skill, with integrity, and with the resolve to be agents of social transformation.
With warm regards,
Ms. Helen Suguna Mary
